Original plans (and intentions)

Original plans (and intentions)

The week has started. By Monday next week (17 October) Rebecca and I will be enjoying another day in the Hanoi sunshine (or rain) before prepping to board a train that will take us to the border town of Lao Chai. From there, we will taxi to Sa Pa, a mountainous resort town surrounded by smaller villages inhabited by several ethnic minority groups; Hmong to name one.

Plans to keep us in Sa Pa before passing through Hanoi, and then to Ha Long Bay, on a three-day, two-night cruise that will feature stunning views of the limestone formations, trips to floating markets (and villages), and the occasional bike ride on one of the many islands that reside in the historic, ancient bay.

Though there is much to see, and 16 full days to see it, our hope is to have an adventure but also have time to còn lại, or rest if you need the English. We're thinking of flying to Danang, visiting the ancient town of Hoi An, while also making sure to enjoy the mountains, sea food, 20 cent beers, and (of course) the pho.

But first, figuring out how many pairs of socks and underwear to take, what shoes to pack, and whether to bring deodrant or not are of highest priority. Stay tuned!
